Mechanical Engineer
Quoceant are expanding our team and are looking for an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer to work with us to deliver innovative design solutions for the offshore renewable sector. Ideally, the successful candidate will have 1-3 years of relevant experience, be confident in using design software and desirably have had some practical experience of build and assembly works. We will also consider applications from recently graduated engineers.
Quoceant are an engineering consultancy based at The Salter Centre for Cleantech Innovation in Loanhead, near Edinburgh. We provide design and consultancy support to a wide range of clients on projects within floating and fixed offshore wind, wave and tidal energy, and the green heat storage sectors. We are a small team who have built a reputation for working on projects at the cutting edge of renewable development and providing solutions to challenging problems.
Our work spans concept development, detailed engineering design and analysis, and the build and testing of subsystems and novel components. In addition to consultancy services, we are developing our own quick connection system solution, Q-Connect, for offshore wind and marine energy. This advertised role is initially a research, design and development role supporting Q-Connect development but longer term there will be opportunities to work on a range of projects.
Quoceant are looking for someone who can work easily as part of our team on dynamic and fast-moving projects. This will involve working at our office and adjoining workshop facility.

Key Tasks:

Mechanical and systems design and analysis at concept through to detailed design level.

Production and review of 3D CAD models and technical drawings.

Undertake analysis to support design development, this may include numerical modelling and simulation and/or FEA.

Support the build and assembly of novel mechanical components, such as our quick connection system, at our onsite workshop facility.

Ensuring that all work is carried out is in full compliance with the Company’s quality management procedures and current H&S legislation requirements.

Report to the appropriate project leader/manager on technical issues and progress associated with project work.

Where required attend and/or lead project meetings with the client or project partners.
Qualifications:
-
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Experience & Qualities Required:

A passion for engineering and innovation

Strong understanding of mechanical engineering design principles.

Excellent technical and analytical skills.
-
Confident and efficient using 3D design software packages (SolidWorks preferred).

Confident and efficient at creating technical drawings.
-
Excellent problem-solving capability, and ability to find quick, innovative, and practical solutions to engineering challenges.

Have a flexible approach to how you work and a desire to learn.

Ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner and have good technical report writing skills.
Experience & Qualities Desired:

Practical experience of build and assembly of mechanical systems.

Knowledge of working in the marine environment.
-
Knowledge of the offshore renewable sector.

Awareness of offshore design codes and standards.

Working towards chartership with an accredited engineering institute.
Details:

37.5 hours per week. Part-time working, and flexible start and finish times will be considered. Please state preference on application.

Salary dependent on skills and experience level.

Work based predominantly in our Loanhead office and workshop which is part of The Salter Centre.

Due to the nature of this work the role is office/workshop based although Quoceant are flexible to occasional working from home.
