Last week, we had the pleasure to welcome visitors to the Inaugural Open Day of the Lothian School of Technology (LST). Quoceant is one of seven innovative companies that call LST home – a recently established hub for innovation with a strong focus on low-carbon technology.
Founded in 2023 by Professor Stephen Salter, LST's mission is to help advance environmental protection through addressing global warming and to further education by training engineers in practical skills, particularly in climate change. Professor Stephen Salter made a huge impact during his lifetime including in areas such as wave power, marine current turbines, wind energy and cloud brightening.
It is a place where collaboration between companies thrives, where emphasis is placed on practical engineering skill and training, and where shared resources, including a well-equipped machine shop, enable companies to innovate faster and succeed.
The seven companies that call LST home are:
Quoceant: a pioneering engineering consultancy supporting offshore renewables.
SynchroStor: developing a unique compressor/expander with market-beating efficiency and controllability.
Ocean Cooling Technology: on a mission to cool the planet by deploying Marine Cloud Brightening.
Sequentec: Developers of control electrical and communication systems for renewable energy storage systems.
Flowcopter: Developers of a low-cost, long-endurance cargo UAV, the FC100.
Edinburgh Designs: Specialists in the design and installation of wave and tidal research facilities.
Hoerbiger: A multinational company specialising in compression systems and hardware.
